Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," his publicist, Annett Wolf, said in a statement released Monday evening.

What a terrible loss. I guess we all knew it was coming since he was diagnosed with cancer late in 2007. He fought on so bravely.

I can't believe he's gone but at least he's no longer suffering! He put up a brave fight and i'll always love him in his films Ghost, Point Break and especially Dirty Dancing!!

Dancing with the Stars tribute to Patrick Swayze

I am so sad that Patrick had to die of this terrible disease. He was such a lovely man and a really good actor and dancer. It is just so heart breaking. God Bless you Patrick, I will be praying for you.

Thanks for Dirty Dancing Patrick. All my kids love the film and we regularly have a swirl or so around the living room.
